The opening hole demands accuracy from the first swing. A gentle dogleg to the right begins around 150 metres from the green, while the fairway’s strong right-to-left slope can quickly move a well-struck drive away from its intended line.

With out of bounds running the full length of the right side, the safest play is toward the centre-right of the fairway, allowing the natural slope to feed the ball back into position. The approach is guarded by bunkers at both the front-left and front-right of the green, placing a premium on distance control and a confident aerial shot.

The two-tiered green is divided by a prominent central ridge, making the correct level essential for a realistic birdie opportunity. Missing left or long brings a significant drop-off into play, so a controlled approach to the heart of the green is often the smartest way to begin the round.
